An incredible experience that 10yo me would never believe ~ Judy Blume! Live! 💥 Despite her beaming in to the Sydney Writers' Festival from Florida, it felt much more 'real' and intimate than I expected, like we were really there with Judy. An all-time favourite author and I still have most of the books. Each was read a gajillion times. At least! The edges aren't even yellow now, they're kind of brown. Anyway, I can remember as a kid finding out that Judy Blume was a middle-aged woman and I just couldn't believe it. But how does she sound *just* like a kid in her stories? I thought. How does she remember exactly what growing up feels like? How does she know what I'm thinking?!! I guess this was my first introduction to voice. It was a thrill to hear from an author idol on everything from being banned to her start in writing (where it was an isolated pursuit, no writers' groups or organisations. A writing course and supportive teacher kicked things off for her), to insights into her books, like Sally J. Freedman is her most autobiographical character. Thank you @sydwritersfest for a dream come true!! 🌟💜🤸‍♂️ @gemmadotpatience
