Some shopping finds from Phnom Penh

A whirlwind trip back to Phnom Penh (where I used to live) was a great excuse to do some shopping in my old haunts (Russian Market, I miss you!). Here are some of my favourite finds (clockwise, from top):

1. Vespa print cushion from Bliss
2. Turquoise scarf from Kravan House
3. Organic Cambodian palm sugar from Lucky Supermarket
4. Bodia Spa soaps (turmeric and ginger & menthol) from U-Care
5. Turquoise and silver pendant and black and silver earrings from Russian Market
6. Black and silver ring from Kravan House
7. Colourful palm leaf boxes (free!) – the jewellery came in these, so much better than plastic bags
There was also lots of miscellaneous shopping in the form of groceries I either can’t find in Saigon or are outrageously priced (still can’t get over $10 arborio rice), and alcohol – love the lax tax system in the ‘bodge.

That cushion is the cutest thing ever! And I love the scarf πŸ™‚ I have three or four scarves that I bought in Cambodia, and I wear them nearly every day. My biggest regret is I didn’t buy more!

I know – i love the scarves, I can’t believe I only bought one just now, but I’m sure I’ll be back!

Your life sounds so exotic and fun. I like the way you wrote “a whirlwind trip to PP”. Most people have to plan for months to get to that city. Nice finds at the market.

Haha! It’s exotic and fun occasionally but pretty ordinary most of the time :-). Yes it’s great living a half hour plane ride away from PP and so close to other places in Asia – need to make the most of that while living here!

I always buy scarves when I travel and have dozens from Thailand and Cambodia. I just can’t resist them.
Any places you can recommend to buy interesting (and inexpensive) scarves in Saigon?

hmmm…can’t think of any nice/cheap places for scarves – but there are some beautiful ones at Khai Silk (Dong Khoi St boutique). Cambodia is the best place I’ve found for cheap scarves that are still really good quality!

Oh my god I am off to get me one of those vespa cushions-great find!! I miss your PP centered posts and the treasures they revealed pounding the hot dusty pavements of the Penh are just not the same without a little Liz direction!

Hi Tanya – I’m sure it won’t be my last trip back to PP (despite my weird mixed feelings at returning) so there should be future finds! Hope there’s still a Vespa cushion left at Bliss, I only saw one other there!
